About Young Engineer

The world in which engineers study, find jobs, and work is changing rapidly.  Young Engineer is a resource for student engineers seeking to become better engineers and desirable employees.  In posts at Young Engineer, I provide advice that’s relevant for engineers—career advice just for us, help on planning your academic or workplace future, information about our fields and our industries, and reflections on the experience of getting an education in engineering.

About E Lorax

I am an aspiring engineer and entrepreneur currently studying materials science engineering.  This summer, I am working in a research lab in the area of colloidal aqueous nanofluids. In addition to my academic pursuits, I’ve been involved with three startups and I’m always on the lookout for the fourth.  Some of my interests include green materials, social enterprise and development, and speaking Spanish.

This is the first time I’ve run across this site, but I am thoroughly enjoying it so far. I’ve been looking into internships and possible ways to get experience in my feild (Mechatronic Engineering) for quite some time now and had not even heard of REU’s. Very helpful, useful information, and wonderfully organized.

Thank you.

Awesome! I’m really glad you like it. Mechatronics is not my thing, but I hang out with some of my school’s robo-lab kids and their projects always sound pretty interesting. Do you know what area of mechantronics you’re most interested in?

If you haven’t seen this video before, I highly recommend it. The robot is called big dog, and it was built by Boston Dynamics. It’s one of the cooler robots I’ve ever seen.

Best,
E Lorax
